Piastri joined the McLaren family at the start of the 2023 season. Piastri entered the top-tier sport highly considered, with expectations of what the young Australian could achieve already in talks. Despite early challenges, Piastri and the team have appeared to turn the season round. After qualifying on the front row at the Japanese Grand Prix, alongside Championship leader Max Verstappen, all eyes were on Piastri as the red lights went out. 

Following pitstops, inter-team battles and a strong racing strategy, Piastri managed to secure third place, behind his teammate Lando Norris who appeared to have slightly more pace during the race. His finish secured him 15 points for himself and the team and marked his first ever podium in F1. Not many F1 rookies can say that they’ve stood on the podium in their first season, so this truly is a remarkable achievement and one to be celebrated.
