This Minardi M198 was the race car built for the Minardi Formula One Team to compete with during the 1998 FIA Formula One World Championship season, and was driven by F1 drivers Shinji Nakano and Esteban Tuero.

The Minardi M198 Chassis 01 was the first car to be produced by Minardi Team SPa in 1998. The car stayed with the team until 2001 and performed PR duties in 1999 which is why it is presented in M01 livery.

The car has an interesting history after F1, too. Following its time with Minardi, it was sold to a film company when Paul Stoddart, owner of the Minardi Team, auctioned off a lot of the race cars. It was used as a status display item and film prop for several years whilst also being a motorsport centrepiece for the company.

Since then, it has been in the hands of several owners - including companies who have worked to renovate the car and get it to be the running car it is today.

This Minardi 198 Chassis 01 is for now sale; it is the first time that it has been open to market publicly and is presented with all the equipment necessary to run the car and also comes with a large amount of spare parts for replacing.

Manufacturing details

The car's last running was in 2019 at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps during the Grand Prix weekend; it also ran one year at the Chicago F1 Festival. Since then, the car has undergone a full inspection which has involved it being stripped back to a chassis and rebuilt.

Prior to being with F1 Authentics, car has been tested, including all components such as the wishbones, rockers and other potential failure points, meaning the car will be able to run once sold. The gearbox has also had a fun strips and inspection and has had all worn components replaced. This Minardi will also undergo testing and checks within the F1 Authentics Race Bays and will be offered improvements where necessary.

In order to prolong its life, the period V10 has been run at reduced revs, which has also helped extends the car's usability. Its hydraulic and AVS systems are also all in full working order and have been serviced ready to run.

Running the car:

F1 Authentics recommends the car moves to an electric off-board starter over the original air start that the car has currently. This is something we can offer you with the sale of the car.

Plus, if required, support for the running of the car can be provided too. With the recent upturn in private ownership of V10 era F1 cars, there are now more opportunities to run cars such as these.

This is a great opportunity to own a car in full original running spec.
