Aston Martin's Story
Aston Martin first entered the Formula 1® World Championship in 1959, but its original programme was brief, lasting just five Grands Prix across two seasons. More than six decades would pass before the famous British name returned to the F1® grid - this time attached to a very different kind of project.
The modern team grew from the Silverstone operation previously known as Racing Point and became Aston Martin for 2021. Sebastian Vettel delivered its first podium at that year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but Fernando Alonso’s arrival in 2023 produced the biggest leap forward. Eight podiums followed as the AMR23 turned racing green into a regular presence near the front of the field.
Aston Martin has since invested heavily in what comes next. A new Silverstone technology campus and wind tunnel have reshaped the operation, Adrian Newey has taken on the role of Team Principal alongside his position as Managing Technical Partner, and 2026 marks the beginning of a works partnership with Honda under Formula 1®’s new regulations.
That makes Aston Martin’s story unusual. Its name carries history, but its current Formula 1® legacy is being created now through new cars, new technology and an ambition to turn one of motorsport’s most recognisable marques into a championship contender.
