Mercedes hade been enjoying an incredible era of dominance as they took every title from 2014-2020. 2021 saw Red Bull catch-up with the Brackley outfit. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton 'enjoyed' one of the most intense rivalries that lasted the entire year. The two title contenders in one lithograph print.
Mercedes and Hamilton enjoyed one of the the most successful eras in Formula 1 history as they dominated this turbo-hybrid era. The Mercedes team had everything figured out, from slick stops to the fastest car.
Since Max Verstappen won the 2016 Spanish GP in his first race for Red Bull, the writing was on the wall for him to challenge the Mercedes in the not too distant future. Each season, Red Bull and Verstappen edged ever closer to topping Mercedes, and they finally made it to the top for 2021.
The RB17b and W12 were both fantastic racing machines, and the drivers behind the wheel were just as incredible. This was the most gripping championship battle in recent F1 history. Whilst the battle in 2007 & 2008 was comparable, was the rivalry as intense?
