Car part collectors and lovers of the engineering behind F1, can now add this crucial car part to their growing collection of race used memorabilia. This chimney has been taken from McLaren F1 Team and one of their 2008 cars – the MP4-23.

Chimneys in F1 are small outlets that sit on the engine cover, used for cooling purposes – a highly important factor required in F1. These chimneys were introduced in the 2000s and were designed to help vent hot air from the engine bay, in order to prevent overheating of components.

The 2008 season was an important mark on the team’s timeline. With rookie Lewis Hamilton having joined the previous year – and having the best rookie season of any driver to date (a record he still holds) - the team knew that 2008 was going to be critical. Despite fierce competition from the Ferrari of Felipe Massa, Hamilton clinched the Title by a single point (he’d missed out on the Title by a single point the year before!) making him a first-time World Champion. Hamilton went on to become the most successful driver in history, but it all started at McLaren. Heikki Kovalainen made up the team – finishing sixth in the Standings, he helped the team achieve second in the Constructor’s Championship.
