LOT 142 - Pierre Gasly 2022 Signed Race Used Helmet – Australian GP
Auction Details
Story
Pierre Gasly’s F1® story is an exciting one, fuelled with adrenaline, challenges and defining moments. This helmet was worn by the French ace during the 2022 Formula One World Championship, at the Australian Grand Prix. Signed by the man himself, it is now available for one collector to own and add to their collection; a beacon of the driver’s racing career so far.
A Racing Journey
Gasly first joined the Red Bull family at the junior team in 2014, however it wasn’t until 2015 that he first got to drive an F1 car. Testing the Toro Rosso STR10 and the Red Bull RB11 (which he went on to test again later in the year), Gasly was then named Red Bull’s reserve driver for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Meanwhile, Gasly had his official F1® debut at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix with Toro Rosso, replacing Daniil Kvyat for the race (and in Japan). He then returned to the team for the Mexico City Grand Prix, partnering Brendon Hartley after Kvyat’s seat became vacant.
He became a full-time driver at Toro Rosso – Red Bull’s sister team in 2018. At the Bahrain Grand Prix, he qualified sixth but was promoted to fifth place ahead of the race. He finished the race in fourth place proving his skills on track and catching the attention of not only the senior team. He recorded four more points finishes that season.
In 2019, Gasly had impressed Red Bull Racing enough to be promoted to the team alongside Max Verstappen. It was a challenging start to the season for the Frenchman, especially when working alongside Verstappen. His best result came at the British Grand Prix where he finished fourth. After coming under increasing pressure, the decision was made to switch Gasly back to Toro Rosso for the remainder of the season. Quick to remind the the senior team of his abilities, Gasly went on to finish second in the Toro Rosso at the Brazilian Grand Prix – the team’s first podium since 2008.
A Defining Moment
The next season, Toro Rosso rebranded at Scuderia AlphaTauri; it would become the most memorabilia season for Gasly. Despite the pressures of the previous season, Gasly went on to claim his maiden victory in F1® at the Italian Grand Prix. It was a moment that felt as though all F1® fans were on the podium with him; a well-deserved victory, made even more heartfelt as it came just a week after the tragic loss of one of his closest friends, racing driver Antoine Hubert.
Gasly continued with the team until the end of 2022, having very much found his feet with the team and in F1®. He claimed a further podium in 2021, and despite not scoring any podiums in 2022, he did achieve six points finishes in an arguably more challenging car and season.
A Helmet Collaboration
Pierre’s helmet for the Australian Grand Prix – the first F1® race back there since Covid-19 – was designed in collaboration with Binance. The collaboration featured a competition, whereby the winner featured their design on Gasly’s helmet. The winning design highlighted Australia’s diverse arts and culture.
