Belgian Grand Prix
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Set among the forests and rolling hills of Belgium's Ardennes region, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is one of Formula 1®'s most celebrated venues. Its combination of high-speed corners, long straights and dramatic elevation changes has made Spa a favourite among drivers and fans, while its famously unpredictable weather can transform the character of a race from one corner to the next.
The original Spa circuit was built in 1921 using public roads between Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot, creating a 14.9km layout through the Ardennes. The Belgian Grand Prix became part of the inaugural Formula 1® World Championship in 1950, while the modern circuit was redeveloped in 1979. At 7.004km, Spa-Francorchamps is now the longest circuit on the Formula 1® calendar, with its 19 corners including the legendary Eau Rouge and Raidillon sequence.
Spa has provided some of Formula 1®'s most memorable moments, from Ayrton Senna's five victories at the circuit to Michael Schumacher's record six wins. The circuit's long straights and challenging corners have regularly produced close racing, while changing weather conditions can make strategy and tyre choice just as important as outright pace. Its unique character has helped establish Spa as one of the sport's essential historic venues.
The Belgian Grand Prix continues to provide a demanding test for Formula 1®'s latest generation of cars. In 2026, Kimi Antonelli took victory after recovering the lead from Charles Leclerc in a closely contested race, with Max Verstappen completing the podium. As the championship returns to the Ardennes in 2027, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps will once again provide a stage where speed, precision and adaptability are essential.
