United States Grand Prix
Circuit of The Americas
The Circuit of The Americas has been the home of the United States Grand Prix since 2012, when Formula 1® returned to the country after a five-year absence. Designed by Hermann Tilke in collaboration with American architectural firm HKS, COTA became the first purpose-built Formula 1® facility in the United States and quickly established itself as one of the sport's most distinctive modern venues. The inaugural race was won by Lewis Hamilton for McLaren.
At 5.513km, the circuit features 20 corners and combines long straights with fast, flowing sequences and heavy braking zones. The lap begins with the dramatic uphill approach to Turn 1 before descending through a series of corners inspired by some of the world's most famous circuits. Turns 3 to 6 echo the high-speed character of Silverstone's Maggotts and Becketts and Suzuka's Esses, while Turns 16 to 18 form a sweeping multi-apex section inspired by Istanbul Park's Turn 8.
COTA has produced some memorable moments since its arrival on the calendar. Sebastian Vettel took the second victory at the circuit in 2013, while Kimi Raikkonen claimed his final Formula 1® victory here in 2018. Lewis Hamilton has also enjoyed considerable success in Austin, while Max Verstappen became a four-time winner at COTA between 2021 and 2023. Charles Leclerc then added his name to the list of winners in 2024, before Verstappen returned to the top step in 2025.
Now in 2027, Formula 1® returns to the Circuit of The Americas for another United States Grand Prix, continuing a long-running relationship between the sport and one of its most popular modern venues. With its combination of high-speed corners, dramatic elevation changes and the unique atmosphere of Austin, COTA remains a distinctive stop on the Formula 1® calendar. The 2027 race is scheduled for 24 October.
