Monte Carlo Grand Prix
Circuit de Monaco
Few venues in Formula 1® are as instantly recognisable as the streets of Monte Carlo. Winding through the Principality and past landmarks including Casino Square, the Loews Hairpin and the Swimming Pool, the Circuit de Monaco combines glamour, history and an extraordinary test of precision. With the barriers lining almost every corner, even the smallest mistake can have race-ending consequences.
Racing first came to Monte Carlo in 1929, when Antony Noghès organised the inaugural event for the Automobile Club de Monaco. The race became part of the first Formula 1® World Championship in 1950 and, after a brief absence from the calendar, has been a permanent fixture since 1955. At just 3.337km, the Circuit de Monaco is one of the shortest layouts in Formula 1®, but its narrow streets and 19 corners demand complete concentration from the drivers.
The race in Monte Carlo has provided some of Formula 1®'s most enduring moments, from Ayrton Senna's remarkable performances to Graham Hill's five victories and Michael Schumacher's famous battles around the Principality. In 2024, Charles Leclerc created a piece of local history when he became the first Monegasque driver to win the race in Formula 1®, while Lando Norris claimed his first victory in Monte Carlo the following year.
In 2026, Kimi Antonelli added his name to the list of winners with a controlled drive through an eventful race that saw seven drivers retire. The 2027 edition will bring another chapter to one of Formula 1®'s most celebrated venues, with the streets of Monte Carlo once again demanding precision, commitment and absolute concentration from the world's best drivers. Formula 1® is contracted to race in the Principality through 2035.
