British Grand Prix
Silverstone Circuit
Few venues carry the history of Formula 1® quite like Silverstone. Set on the site of a former Royal Air Force airfield in Northamptonshire, the circuit has been at the heart of the sport since the very beginning, hosting the first ever Formula 1® World Championship race in 1950. Today, the British Grand Prix remains one of the biggest and most anticipated events on the calendar, with huge crowds and a passionate home following creating a unique atmosphere across the weekend.
Silverstone's first Grand Prix took place on 13 May 1950, with Giuseppe Farina taking victory for Alfa Romeo. Originally formed from the runways and perimeter roads of the former RAF station, the circuit has evolved considerably over the decades while retaining its reputation as one of Formula 1®'s fastest and most challenging venues. The modern 5.891km layout features 18 corners, including the legendary Maggotts, Becketts and Abbey complex, with high-speed changes of direction demanding commitment and precision from every driver.
Silverstone has provided countless defining moments throughout Formula 1® history, from Ferrari's first British Grand Prix victory in 1951 to the era-defining performances of drivers including Jim Clark, Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher. Lewis Hamilton has become the most successful driver at the circuit with nine victories, including his dramatic wet-weather win in 2024. The following year, Lando Norris became the latest British driver to win his home race, continuing a long tradition of British success at Silverstone.
The British Grand Prix continues to occupy a unique place on the Formula 1® calendar, combining the heritage of the sport's birthplace with the excitement of modern Grand Prix racing. In 2026, Charles Leclerc claimed victory in an eventful race ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, adding another chapter to Silverstone's remarkable history. With the British Grand Prix secured at Silverstone through 2034, the Northamptonshire circuit will remain a cornerstone of Formula 1® for years to come.
